Technical skills and knowledge needs
Heritage science is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary and this presents great opportunities for learning from other disciplines as well as sharing techniques and knowledge that have been developed by heritage scientists.
Skills and knowledge development needs exist across the heritage science community. For example, we need new techniques to address new challenges, (such as the impact of a changing climate on heritage) and new skills to take advantage of developments in technology.
The Forum's future work on this topic would build on the capacity analysis that was undertaken in 2009 and the 2017 research into heritage science careers to generate up-to-date knowledge of the workforce and its skills needs, as well as identify the areas in which skills need to be developed.
